Jim Mickey serves as Associate Vice President in University Advancement, overseeing Alumni Programs and University Marketing. As executive director of the UTSA Alumni Association, Jim has helped increase memberships by more than 200 percent and alumni participation by 64 percent.  He was honored as UTSA’s Alumnus of the Year in 2007.

Jim earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 1978 and has been involved with the UTSA Alumni Association since 1991, first as a volunteer and later as a board member.

Jim joined UTSA in April 2010 after a 30-year career in telecommunications primarily with AT&T, Sprint, and most recently, Chief Operating Officer of Pocket Communications.  His marketing experience spans across consumer and small, medium, enterprise, and international business markets. His 15 years of retail wireless experience includes serving as Senior Vice President of Retail for Sprint leading a $5 billion business unit of 10,000 employees with over 1,000 stores from Hawaii to Puerto Rico.
